Our 2020 Challenging Fabric Challenge is now over. Thanks to the amazing quilters with their stunning creativity who made the challenge so fun!

Thanks to the 6,300+ votes that we got during the challenge voting timeframe, too!

Announcing the winners:

In 1st place with 1,621 votes: Colleen Phillips of Carthage, NC with "Bienvenue"

Quilt by Colleen Phillips

Colleen's statement:

The fabric was certainly a challenge.  I decided that my cheese fabric needed wine.  Cheese always pairs well with a good glass or two of wine.  Once I decided on the theme then I had to come up with a way to pull it all together.  Once I had all done I decided that my design had a French feel to it.  I could see this being a sign on the door of a vineyards' tasting room in France, welcoming everyone in.  Hence the "Bienvenue", which is Welcome in French.

Attached are some pictures of my Challenge Quilt.  I have wanted to do one for several years now but because of work, I never tried it.  I also thought that I could never make something beautiful enough to win a prize.  I had so much fun, from start to finish, creating this quilt.

The name of my quilt is Charcuterie.  I wanted a pieced quilt that had all the elements of a charcuterie or cheese board without being cute.  I have also wanted a quilt for my kitchen table and never made one so this challenge was just perfect for me this year.  I chose this pattern because of the movement when you look at the quilt.  I’m including a pictures of the front of the quilt, a close up of the front and the back of my quilt too because I’m very proud of my label.  I know you can’t show it because my name is on it but I just wanted to show it off and what goes better with a cheese board than a nice bottle of wine?

Of course, I hope I get some votes and can win one of the gift cards but most of all, I’m glad I decided to do this challenge this year.   I love the quit and I never would have made it if not for the challenge.  Thank you so much.

In third place with 525 votes, we congratulate Kimberlee Philosophos from Highland Beach, FL!

Here is her artist statement:

When I received the cheese fabric, the very first thing I thought of was making a cover for our ottoman. We have lots of cheese and wine parties so made this for my husband. Our ottoman always seems to turn into a table when quest arrive so now it will have a nice cover.

This was a real challenge for me as I have never appliquéd before or stitched in a ditch. I’m fairly new to making quilts so ready did challenge myself. Fitting and coming up with this crazy design.
